They came, they saw, they conquered.

Filipino street dancers continued their winning ways as Team Philippines bagged seven gold medals at the World Supremacy Battlegrounds in Sydney over the weekend.

Over 1,500 dancers and 160 teams from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, The Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand and Singapore competed in the four-day street dance festival.

Team Philippines came out in full force as top contenders at the 14th annual World Supremacy Battlegrounds International Championship at Bankstown Sports Club last October 5-8. They did not disappoint.

Composed of 28 crews from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, Team Philippines captured the prestigious International Open, Monster Crew and Varsity division titles, Kids and Cell division as well as the Solo All Styles and Hip Hop battle divisions.

Lego Fam from Laguna secured the Open and Varsity gold, while Pilipinas Got Talent grand finalists Power Impact Dancers won the Monster Crew title.

Cebu’s very own Sezzyhood won the new Cell division, while Synergy dance member Kage (aka Baby Deathrow) and Luigi captured the Hip Hop and All Styles solo battle titles respectively.

Davao City’s Distinct Feature, under the guidance of Master Bryan Grandeza, won the Kids Division. It was the first gold for Mindanao since Xtatic of Cagayan de Oro won way back in 2007.

MAD Rush, MNM, Electro Groovers, Ignite, Kid Lightning Crew, Streetbuck, Stump and 4DK also won medals for Team Philippines.

Battlegrounds Philippines country director Patrick “Lil Pat” Romero could not contain his joy.

“I want to thank God for guiding Team Philippines at WSB. Congratulations to all the crews that won medals for our country. Our Filipino dancers will always give 100% but we also show love and respect to everyone in the competition,” said Romero.

Some of the other Filipino teams that placed in the Top 10 across various divisions include Distinct Feature (#10 Young Guns), Studio 51 (#6 Varsity), Junior FMD (#8 Varsity), Histacity Mega Crew (#4 Monster), FCBC Baliktanaw (#5 Monster), Synergy (#6 Monster), Studio 51 (#7 Monster), M.Y Crew (#8 Monster), Graffiti (#5 Open), Nocturnal Dance Company (#7 Open) and Slim Shadow Dance Crew (#10 Open).

Rising star Andree "AC" Bonifacio is coming to Australia for the first time. She will join creative genius Parris Goebel, K-Pop choreographer Kiel Tutin and Michael Jackson's hip-hop dance mentor Buddha Stretch at the hip-hop meet World Supremacy Battlegrounds Festival in Bankstown on October 5-8.

The talented social media darling, singer, dancer, choreographer and actress is only fourteen but she has already achieved so many accolades.

AC appeared in the movie Step Up, created YouTube dance videos with Matt Steffanina that attracted over 7 million views and caught the eye of Simon Fuller at a Hollywood boot camp.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, AC started dancing when she was three-years old.

She was discovered on YouTube as a member of dynamic duo Lucky Aces. They appeared together on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, then got invited to perform alongside Ariana Grande at her concert.

When she's not hanging out with celebrities, AC was busily mining gold at international dance competitions as a member of a Hip-Hop crew Freshh.

AC and her parents decided to bring her talents to the Philippines two years ago to pursue her dreams. In her first foray in Manila, she was crowned the first grand champion of reality show Dance Kids, and was a finalist in another show Your Face Sounds Familiar.

It was only a matter of time before ABS CBN would come knocking. She is now a contracted artist for Star Magic and a regular cast member in television sitcom Wansapanatym.

Last month, Simon Fuller, the creator of American Idol, selected AC as a finalist to vie for a slot in the upcoming global pop group Now United. She joined 46 other finalists from around the globe, including fellow Team Philippines members Ylona Garcia, Jane De Leon and Bailey May.

WSB Founder Marco Andre Selorio said that having AC Bonifacio at WORLD SUPREMACY BATTLEGROUNDS would inspire so many young kids to work harder and aim higher.

"I met AC only a few months ago and she made quite the impression. I introduced her to Matt Steffanina and he was blown away. This kid is oozing with personality and talent, yet she remains humble and so friendly. She's going to have an amazing career and I am so happy that she's coming to WSB."

AC will be in Sydney City from October 6 and is slated to conduct an exclusive dance workshop during the World Supremacy Battlegrounds. For more information, visit

Team Philippines has once again showed their might in the art of street dance at the World Supremacy Battlegrounds championship in Brisbane, Australia last weekend. UPeepz secured gold in the Monster Crew division, while Asian Pride of Mandaluyong grabbed gold in the Open Division.  Two other teams, defending champion FMD Xtreme (Open) from Marikina City and Recab (Monster) from Cabanatuan City secured the silver medal in their respective divisions. Australia's Hellraizers and Illagroovers secured the Junior and Varsity titles respectively, while Empire Kidz (USA) won the new Young Guns division.

Over 1,000 dancers and 100 international hip-hop teams from across Australia, New Zealand, USA, China, Taiwan, Guam, India and South Africa participated in the three-day long street dance festival.  The World Supremacy Battlegrounds, now in its 11th year, featured crew competitions, dance and rap battles, market and food stalls, celebrity meet and greets, dynamic musical performances and live music from the best DJs in Australia.  Almost 6,000 people attended WSB.

UPeepz, a University of the Philippines Diliman-based open organization under the college of Human Kinetics, topped the preliminary round in their division last Friday and never looked back. Thirty-six Filipino dancers powered their way to the gold medal in the championship round on Sunday.

Philippine dance coach and UPeepz director Chips Beltran was over the moon with the result.

“There were a lot of good groups, we were really nervous, “ said Beltran.

“Our win means so much to us because we really faced a lot of hardships before going to Australia. We had a lot of injuries, visa issues and monetary problems. Finally we won gold and it means to the world to me. Thank you for everything.”

On the other hand, Asian Pride was an underdog and only placed fourth in the Open prelims. Injuries hampered their performance, but their passion continued to burn. The crew made incessant changes to their routine but topped it off with an undeniable ending in the championship.

Asian Pride leader Mimong Samonte was left speechless after their name was called out in front of 2,000 people.

“Sir, we are still in disbelief. We are overwhelmed, because there are so many amazing dance crews that joined WSB. We were content to even place in the Top 5 andf dance in front of a strong Filipino community that supported us, but God had bigger plans for us, “ said Samonte.

The World Supremacy Battlegrounds moves back to Sydney City in 2016.

World Supremacy Battlegrounds (WSB) founder Marco Selorio has issued an official statement regarding the measles infection in Sydney last month.

“We were first contacted by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service on December 30 and informed us that a New Zealand dancer contracted measles. The following day, the Australian Department of Health alerted us that another dancer from South Australia was also infected.

It was the first time that this has happened in nine years of competition, and once we were notified, we immediately contacted all Australian and international dance teams that competed in World Supremacy Battlegrounds and disseminated the information given to us by the respective health boards.

Our WSB management sent a public notice via social media (Facebook and Twitter) on January 1 to alert the dance community. This was soon followed by a corresponding email to all participating teams. The message is clear - if faced with symptoms that they should go see a doctor immediately as per advice from the respective Health Boards. We understand that the incubation period for measles is 10-18 days. Our events management team was also notified to check if anyone suffered any symptoms.

After further investigation, we have since discovered the source of the disease. An adult male dance competitor from the Philippines was infected by measles. According to their team manager, he showed flu-like symptoms on the day of international competition on December 8, but continued to dance after he received cold and flu tablets. He was bed-ridden for a few days after the event. He did not know that he had measles until the rashes appeared. His rashes did not show until he returned to the Philippines on 11th December. He was soon confined to hospital and isolated for two weeks until he was healed.

It is an unfortunate incident that the spread of measles could not be prevented. Had we known earlier that the competitor or any of our dancers contracted the illness, we would have prevented them from entering the competition premises.”
